626. Not Everyone Will Agree with Your Beliefs - Why This is Good for You!
Does disagreement threaten your peace — or actually charge you up?
Of course, we all love unity. Agreement feels good, and it's easy to push away ideas (or people) that don't match what is true for us. But let's look closely at nature: opposites create balance. Likewise, a battery only holds energy because it carries both a positive and a negative charge.
I'll share a powerful example of a "negative" that I caught as it was about to pull me down and I used its energy to benefit me instead.
In this episode of Soul Elevation, Kara Goodwin explores why the very things that differ from your beliefs are here to HELP you:
- They give you the charge to inspire action
- They offer fresh perspective that refines and shapes what you believe
- They can help you flex the muscle of compassion
We also look at the trap of the echo chamber and how surrounding yourself only with "yes" people and slipping into confirmation bias can lead to inertia. Comfort has its place, but you didn't come here to stay comfortable. You are here to contribute.
In this episode:
• Why unity feels good, but that's only half the story
• The battery metaphor — how "negative" forces actually energize you
• My own example of using a negative charge for positive creation
• How opposing views sharpen and refine your own beliefs
• Compassion as a practice, not just a concept
• Why the echo chamber and comfort zone can stall your growth

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:08,000
Hello. Welcome to Soul Elevation: Guiding Your Ascension to New Heights. I'm your host Kara Goodwin. I'm so happy to be here with you today on Monday, August 24th, 2026. Today I wanna talk about how everyone's not gonna agree with your beliefs, and that this is actually a positive
thing. This can be really, really good for you. And I think that let's start with unity, because it feels really good when we are in unity, in unity, when we're in harmony, when we're with people who appreciate our perspective, they agree with our perspective. There's, there's
1
00:01:00,000 --> 00:01:08,000
definitely... That can be so nourishing to feel seen, to feel understood. So it's not to discount that, but that is gonna happen some of the time, and it's not gonna happen all the time. And it can be easy to think, "Ah, somebody disagrees with me," or, "Somebody can't see things the way that I'm seeing it, and so I don't
like it. So I'm either gonna move away from it or I'm gonna defend myself, I'm gonna argue." And there can be discord with that. That, again, it can feel uncomfortable But what is happening there is that there is a charge when you come up against somebody who doesn't ag- share your beliefs, doesn't, um, doesn't agree with your
2
00:02:00,000 --> 00:02:08,000
beliefs. And this doesn't have to be even about beliefs. This can be about anything. This doesn't have to even be spiritual. But the point is, is that we can feel ourselves moving toward things that are in harmony with what we think and how we live, and move away or avoid or be confrontational when we encounter something that goes against that. And why I'm saying that it can be a good thing to find ourselves in
circumstances like that is because we are in a, um, an energetic environment. And I was actually... This, I wanna give a shout-out to The Way Forward podcast with Alex Zeck because this, there was an episode I was listening to with a regenerative farmer, and unfortunately I can't remember the name of that, but it's a recent episode. Can't remember the name of this person. But this, they were talking about this. That was the
3
00:03:00,000 --> 00:03:08,000
inspiration. So I want to share some of what they were talking about, and also add in my own, um, experiences with this because even though, like I hadn't really thought about it the way that they were talking about it, but I've experienced it. And I think I've shared some of this before, but But when we feel a trigger or when we feel, um, w- that kind of... If we feel even anger, whatever it is, we might think, "Ooh, this doesn't feel good." I mean, some people like it actually, and some
people seek out conflict because they like that charge. What... It's probably on a subconscious level, and they don't wanna admit that they're doing that, but they get that charge, and it kinda makes them feel alive. Um, and so you might see that they like to stir the pot. They like to get into that, um, even though it makes them angry, there's something about them that likes that anger. And then if you take that further and you think about, well, why are horror films so popular? Why is drama,
4
00:04:00,000 --> 00:04:08,000
you know, why do we watch shows that have drama, and they have that tension, they have that conflict? Every piece of, um, like every movie you're gonna watch, every TV show you're gonna watch is gonna have tension. There's gonna be an arc to it. You're gonna start where, usually it starts where things are okay, and then there's some, some tension builds, things start to go wrong. There are conflicts, and there's a peak. There's
a, there's a climax, and then they, they learn something. They've gotta come out of that, and something has to change. And then they're, you know, things settle back down. That's a standard arc of a story or even a hero's journey. But- When we think about charge, think about a battery. Think about how... Hello, hello. Thank you for joining. Uh, think about a battery and how there's a positive charge and a negative charge, and
5
00:05:00,000 --> 00:05:08,000
those things together create the force that allows a battery to make things run. And the, the same thing is true in nature. We have feminine and masculine. These are two forces. We have yin and yang, or yang. These are two opposing forces that work together to create. A male and a female energy works together to create life, and it works together to create all kinds
of things too, in addition to life. But just at the very primal, biological level, you need the male and the female to create that life and to allow new life to come in. It takes both of those forces, and they hold different charges. The same with the elements. So, um, something that this podcast was talking about on The Way Forward, this episode, they were talking
6
00:06:00,000 --> 00:06:08,000
about water and fire, and these could be seen as diametrically opposed forces. You know, water takes out fire. You know, water will diminish fire. But if they're utilized in a specific way, they can create steam, and steam is a power source. So all of these things are, you know, if you think about the charge, and that charge can Take action or can create. So if you think about
this again in, like, the context of you come across somebody and they don't believe your same beliefs or they have opposing views to you, and how that discomfort that you may feel or that charge, it may make you angry if somebody... Especially depending on how that conversation goes. If they're kind of putting you down or, you know, you're really wanting... You feel this, like, I
7
00:07:00,000 --> 00:07:08,000
want them to see how my beliefs are correct or valid, and they're just not gonna meet you there, and maybe it starts to wind you up. And again, that doesn't feel good on the surface, but it is a charge. Same thing if you're noticing the state of the world. Have we noticed the state of the world is kind of a dumpster fire in a lot of ways? And so we might... There are lots of ways to deal with that. We might
just look away and, and not be able to... Sometimes I feel that way, where I'm like, "I can't look at this anymore. I cannot... I can't go into this topic anymore." Um, or, "I need a break. I need to stop thinking about, you know, these, these different, like, really detrimental ways that humanity is behaving right now that's harming people and it's harming the planet." But Another way to... So, you know,
8
00:08:00,000 --> 00:08:08,000
sometimes we might be in a state of avoidance, sometimes it might just be too much and we just have to turn away, but sometimes we are spurred into action. And it is because there is something that we disagree with so much that we have to do something. And it gets us up, it gets us... It, it ignites something within us so that we then take action. Because if we don't have something that we feel passionate about,
or if we don't really, you know, if things are they're okay, we're just gonna tolerate them or, you know, whatever it might be, that's that stasis. And so if we're just in stasis and we're... Or if we're just, you know, we've created our environment in this echo chamber where everybody is just reflecting back to us whatever it is that we believe, whatever it is that we say, whatever it is, you know, and we're
9
00:09:00,000 --> 00:09:08,000
just around yes people all the time and we're never getting any, like, opposition, we're never getting anybody that's challenging what we think, then we may just get very, very comfortable and feel like, "Oh, well, everybody thinks the same way that I do. Everything's..." You know, and, and just kind of not do anything and not challenge ourselves and not motivate ourselves.
Because at the bottom line is, and if you... If this is not the first time you've heard one of my livestreams, you've heard me say this before, but you are here on purpose. You are a soul in a human body, in a human life, with a human existence. Use it. You are here to use your life. You are a spirit. You are an eternal spirit who chose to come here in a human body
10
00:10:00,000 --> 00:10:08,000
In a human vessel. And there is purpose in you being here. And yes, there will be times where you're kind of in a, um, a s- a spot where you don't... You know, maybe action is not being called of you in this moment, but you can't be in that state forever. You can't be in an inert state forever. You are here. You have gifts. You have, you have vitality. You have prana. You have chi. You have
life force moving through your body. That can positively affect this reality. And your, your gifts are gonna be different from other people's gifts, but you may need to be motivated to use them. So if you're just in a state where you think everything's okay, you know, you're like, "Oh, everywhere I look, everybody's kind of reflecting back to me what it is that I'm saying and what I'm doing,"
11
00:11:00,000 --> 00:11:08,000
then you may not... You may tell yourself incorrectly that you don't need to do anything, you don't have anything to offer, and you do. I know by the virtue of you being here that you have your own unique skills and gifts to offer. And so It's, it can be that it is through conflict or it is through somebody who doesn't hold the same beliefs that you do that you are spurred into, like... I mean,
it could be something like, oh, this person still believes that, um, you know, they believe something that you used to believe about your own limitations or something like that, and it, and it makes you think back to how you used to think. And then that, some idea comes of how you could help that person to change their perception and see themselves in a new way, and then that spawns something
12
00:12:00,000 --> 00:12:08,000
within you of like, oh, if I help this one person to be able to open themselves up beyond their limitations, that I can see how I could do this for more people and help more people. That's just one example. I mean, this, it's endless the amount of examples. But the point is, without you coming up against somebody who is not where you are, then you wouldn't get that inspiration. And so this leads me to a related experience
that was really, really powerful that I wanna share. It's slightly a different flavor than the beliefs and perceptions, but it's that charge. And again, I wanna reinforce that sometimes we feel, like, a negative charge, and it might f- feel, make us feel angry, it can make us feel sad, it can make us feel dejected. It can... But it's, it's that kind of, of let's just call it a negative charge in terms of it makes
13
00:13:00,000 --> 00:13:08,000
us not feel great And I had this time not too long ago where I was meditating, and there was something going on in my personal world. I can't remember now even what it was. I think it was related to somebody that I'm close with and their relationship that they were... Something going on with their relationship, I think. Um, and it sparked this old wound within me, something that had happened
decades ago, that it, it just brought this memory. What this person that I'm close with was going through was similar to something that I had been through, that I have chosen to... not to bury, because I really did deal with it at the time, like, head-on, and it was a big, big deal. And, um, but once I had dealt with it and kind of felt that I'd gotten as much out of that experience as I could,
14
00:14:00,000 --> 00:14:08,000
I told myself I wasn't going to keep reopening that wound, and I wasn't gonna keep talking about it. And so it, it moved into the recesses of my memory where, you know, it's something that I... It's not like I forgot it happened, but I don't dwell on it and I don't bring it to mind very often. But because this person was going through it and it was similar, as I was meditating, this memory
just came back automatically. Like, I, it wasn't like I was trying to comb through my thoughts of, how does this relate to something I've been through, and it just showed up. And as soon as it showed up, even though this is, is m- I would say this is a pretty well-healed wound, but in that moment of it just showing up unexpectedly, I felt a charge. I felt this flare-up of anger and betrayal,
15
00:15:00,000 --> 00:15:08,000
and it was a weird, it was a weird experience because it was like, because I was meditating, I think there was this observer mode that I was kind of in, but I was also reflecting on this current thing that somebody else was going through. And so when this memory came in, it was like as the memory was coming in, there were these emotions a- already attached to it. So
I was receiving the memory with that charge, with the hurt, with the betrayal. And I caught it before I could sink my teeth into it, if that makes sense. So I recognized, oh yeah, that thing that happened, and I felt this... It's like I felt this current come in, and the current of energy was, uh, what I would consider negative. It wasn't how I wanted to feel. It was
16
00:16:00,000 --> 00:16:08,000
this, it was this negative charge of betrayal, of anger But because I recogni... It was like I could feel the energy and, and it was almost like my mind was a computer and really, really quickly trying to locate the energy and what- and put a label on it, if this makes sense. So it was like, oh, I feel this energy, and what is, what is it? You know? And it was like
as I was doing that and the memory was surfacing, it was like, oh, I know what this is. It's betrayal, it's anger, and it's old, and I've done this already. And so it's like I caught it and I chose not to sink my teeth into it, but then I had this potential energy. It was potential life force and I had a moment of awareness where I could choose, do I want to take
17
00:17:00,000 --> 00:17:08,000
this and use it the way I've used it in the past, which is to get into righteousness, which is to feel betrayed, which is to be angry? Those are all ways I'd used this specific incident in the past. That's, that was the default. But because I was... It was like this brief moment where I was holding it, theoretically, and then I was thinking, I want to apply this to something
current and positive. And so I thought, what is it that I want to create? What is it that I'm in the process of creating for myself? And so I visualized that, that future state, and it's like I took this energy and applied it to that. And that is the most technical way that I can explain, because that is kind of... It, it's an experiential thing, but you can use this,
18
00:18:00,000 --> 00:18:08,000
because you're gonna be triggered. And so you may not be able to do it in the moment that you're triggered, but maybe you can get into, later get into a meditative state, allow yourself to reflect on it, feel the charge, feel the emotions, but then bring to mind what it is that you want to bring into your reality, that you want to create within your
life, and use that energy. It's like take the attention off of what caused that energy to come in, which was friction and it was negativity, and transfer it into this positive future state And it's so powerful because it's just energy. It's life force and s- and it's, it can be easily accessible through anger, through those negative charges. But we
19
00:19:00,000 --> 00:19:08,000
can choose how we apply that energy. So it's really, really, it's a powerful opportunity. It's, it's such a powerful opportunity for you. So please utilize this and be a creator and remember that you are limitless. You are so limitless. Um, I'm so grateful for you to be here with me today. Thank you so much for tuning in.
