Your Spiritual Practice Carries You Through Chaos Even When You've Forgotten It Exists

Life has a way of pulling us out of our routines. Even those who are deeply committed to spiritual growth and inner alignment can find themselves swept into the intensity of everyday responsibilities, emotional milestones, family obligations, and unexpected changes. In episode 590 of Soul Elevation, I open up about navigating one of the busiest and most emotionally charged seasons I've had recently, which has challenged me to remain connected to my spiritual center.
Between hosting international guests, celebrating my daughter’s sixteenth birthday, attending my son’s high school graduation, cohosting a graduation party, and managing the emotional and logistical whirlwind that came with it all, I was immersed in nonstop activity. Like many spiritually conscious people, I noticed how easy it can be to become pulled back into the intensity of the external world when normal spiritual routines seem distant.
Yet the chaos and swell of activity I found myself in led to a profound realization. Spiritual practice is not only about when we get to sit in meditation, journal, pray, or engage in energy work. The true power of spiritual development is in the cumulative effect of those practices over time. The inner work we consistently devote ourselves to creates a reservoir of strength, coherence, and energetic alignment that continues supporting us even during the times when life becomes chaotic.
Our spiritual growth becomes embodied over time. There may be moments when your schedule no longer allows for extended meditation sessions or deeply immersive spiritual rituals. However, that does not mean your spiritual connection disappears. The energy cultivated through years of spiritual dedication continues to sustain us beneath the surface. Think of how physical exercise strengthens the body over time; spiritual practice likewise strengthens our energetic resilience and consciousness. The benefits don't simply vanish when life becomes temporarily overwhelming.
Bear this in mind if you feel guilt or frustration when you have times where you can't maintain your ideal spiritual routine. Rather than viewing ourselves as failing spiritually, we can recognize that life itself is part of the spiritual journey. Busy seasons are opportunities to embody the wisdom we have already cultivated.
Many people on a spiritual path hold themselves to very high standards. When routines shift or practices become inconsistent, it can trigger feelings of disappointment, self-judgment, or fear of losing spiritual momentum. Instead, approach these moments with compassion rather than criticism. Spirituality isn't about perfection - thank God! Instead, it's a practice of presence, awareness, and returning to alignment again and again.
Sometimes the most spiritually aligned thing we can do is simply acknowledge the humanity of our current circumstances. During periods of intense activity, emotional transitions, or family obligations, giving ourselves permission to adapt can actually strengthen our spiritual maturity. The energy of guilt often creates more separation than the disruption itself. When we release unrealistic expectations and trust the deeper foundation we have built, we can move through life with greater peace and self-acceptance.
It's important to realize that spiritual awakening is not separate from ordinary life. Family milestones, emotional experiences, stress, celebration, and even exhaustion are all part of the human experience we came here to navigate consciously. Rather than viewing spirituality as something reserved only for quiet meditation spaces or perfectly structured routines, awakening truly happens through the messiness of real life. Times of transition can become some of the greatest catalysts for growth.
My experience of supporting children through major life milestones while simultaneously managing guests, responsibilities, emotions, and personal overwhelm was likewise an opportunity to observe consciousness in action. Under the external chaos, there remained the inner awareness cultivated through spiritual practice. This is deeply empowering for anyone who feels they are “falling behind” spiritually because life has become demanding.
Spiritual growth compounds over time. Every meditation session, moment intentional presence, healing practice, and conscious choice contributes to the development of our energetic field and nervous system. Even when we temporarily step away from our regular daily practices, the transformation we have already embodied continues to carry us. During busy periods we rely on the spiritual practice to be an integrated aspect of who we are.
Spiritual resilience is built gradually. The calm, centered energy we seek during difficult seasons is still with us amidst the busyness as the direct result of the devotion we cultivated long before the challenges we are facing.
Remember, too, that spiritual connection does not always require elaborate rituals. During demanding seasons, even small moments of awareness can help us reconnect with ourselves. Tune into the breath, tap into gratitude, create a quick pause in the midst of a hectic day, become present to the moment. These are simple acts that can become powerful anchors to help us maintain energetic coherence when life feels overwhelming.
Major life transitions often challenge our routines and emotional equilibrium. Graduations, birthdays, family gatherings, travel, career changes, and periods of intense responsibility can all create temporary disruption. And yet, these moments also reveal the depth of our spiritual foundation. Trust that your spiritual connection remains intact even when your external practices temporarily shift. The wisdom, awareness, and energetic stability cultivated through years of conscious living don't disappear overnight. Trust the larger rhythm of spiritual growth. There are seasons for deep inward focus and seasons where spirituality must be integrated into movement, responsibility, and real-world experiences.
