The Hidden Truth About the Astral Realm & What Astral Projection Won't Tell You

The Hidden Truth About the Astral Realm & What Astral Projection Won't Tell You

Listen or watch

I've experienced the astral realm through my own meditation practice and spiritual experiences. I know it can be a confusing concept - is it a real place? is it a metaphor? is it a dream space? So in episode 617 of Soul Elevation, I share my personal experiences with the astral realms. I can't say if this is universal truth or if different people have other experiences of the astral, but these are some of my firsthand observations that I've had over the years.

Many spiritual traditions describe reality as existing on multiple levels or dimensions. Countless people throughout history have described experiences that extend beyond ordinary perception of our physical reality.

The astral realm is one of those nonphysical dimensions. In my experience, it isn't a single place. It appears to have different levels or frequencies, with some feeling heavier, denser, and more chaotic, and others more expansive and "thinned out". Beyond the astral realm, I have experienced even higher states of consciousness and awareness that are more coherent and organized, for lack of a better term.

How I First Began Experiencing Other Realms

One of the first profound experiences with another realm I had occurred early in my meditation journey. During a meditation, I suddenly found myself observing what looked like a spiral galaxy from a great distance. At the time, I had no framework for understanding what I was seeing. I wasn't studying starseeds, galactic consciousness, or multidimensional spirituality. My meditation practice was rooted in traditional yogic teachings, and outer space was not something I ever heard referenced.

When I asked one of my meditation teachers about the vision, they simply encouraged me not to become attached to it and had no explanation to help clue me in on why I would see something like that. Looking back, I'm mostly grateful for that advice. It's good to avoid chasing extraordinary experiences, and I could allow my understanding to unfold naturally over time. And on the other hand, the hindsight confirms that my time in that lineage was bound to be limited, because something that is a big part of my soul was not able to be nurtured or even acknowledged in that environment.

Passing Through the Astral Realm

Eventually, I had many more "visions" and experiences of consciousness that are very different to what we experience in our physical realm. Often these experiences involved different types of lights, colors we don't see with our human eyes, sacred geometry, and various patterns. As these experiences increased and various elements began to become familiar, I noticed that I didn't always arrive immediately in those states of light, sacred geometry, or expansive awareness. Sometimes I would move through a particularly chaotic realm first, which I now recognize as the astral realm. Particularly, the lower astral realm.

It has a very different quality than experiences of vast space, harmonic and symmetric geometry, or what I sometimes describe as the void (which also has a quality of outer space to it). The astral realm is more populated, dense and thick energetically, chaotic and very closely connected to human consciousness.

I often wonder whether many of our dreams are actually experiences of consciousness taking place beyond the physical body. I've come to understand that our consciousness may genuinely be exploring other realms while we sleep, at least part of the time. When we wake up, however, our brain overlays those experiences with familiar dream imagery to help our human brains understand and relate to what happened. I describe it as experiencing a "dream screen," where our brain translates energetic experiences we have beyond ordinary physical awareness into images and stories we can understand.

Because my multidimensional and astral experiences have been so personal, I really don't know if they are just my interpretation of what I'm seeing or if it is more universal in nature. So I really love when I come across validation by way of others having first hand accounts of things I've experienced. I had this happen when I was a guest on the Boundless Authenticity podcast. moments for me came during a conversation on the Boundless Authenticity podcast with Jehan Sattar. As I described some of these experiences, he immediately recognized what I was talking about because he had experienced similar phenomena himself.
