The NDE Life Review: Why Clearing Beliefs Matters More Than You Think

The NDE Life Review: Why Clearing Beliefs Matters More Than You Think

Listen or watch

Episode 644 questions whether the beliefs we carry throughout our lives influence not only how we experience the physical world, but also what we encounter beyond it. Could our fears, expectations, and deeply ingrained conditioning shape our near-death experiences, spiritual visions, and even our experiences after death?

This is a fascinating possibility that invites us to examine something we don't always recognize: the invisible baggage we carry within our consciousness.

In this episode, I discuss how our beliefs may influence our spiritual experiences, why fear can distort our perceptions, and how releasing limiting beliefs can help us expand into greater awareness. I talk about how similar patterns across disparate NDEs (near death experiences) and OBEs (out of body experiences) point to this very likely possibility. I also share some extraordinary synchronicities that reminded me just how mysterious and interconnected our reality truly is.

Do Beliefs Influence Near-Death Experiences?

An undeniably intriguing aspect of near-death experiences (NDEs) is how differently people describe what they encounter. Some people meet Jesus. Others have encounters with Buddha, Krishna, deceased loved ones, or spirit guides. Many experience overwhelming love, profound peace, and an expanded understanding of existence.

The variety of experiences raises an interesting question: Are people encountering different spiritual realities, or are they interpreting something beyond our ordinary understanding through the lens of their existing beliefs? Perhaps consciousness interprets extraordinary experiences through symbols and relationships that feel familiar. Or perhaps there is something even more mysterious happening.

I don't claim to know exactly how this works, but I believe the question and observation is important.

When Spiritual Insights Arrive Through Synchronicity

During a recent conversation with Greg the Hydrogen Man, we discussed his remarkable near-death experience and the spiritual insights he brought back. Before my conversation with Greg, I had been preparing for meditation when an unexpected insight came to me. I suddenly knew what I wanted to discuss during an upcoming livestream: the importance of clearing our spiritual baggage and recognizing how deeply our beliefs can influence our experiences.

I wasn't actively searching for a topic or even thinking about the livestream which would happen in 2 days. The idea simply arrived.

Later that day, during my conversation with Greg, he began discussing the relationship between beliefs and near-death experiences. In episode 644, I share a clip from our upcoming Part 2 of Greg's story so you can see this happening in real time. He talked about people from different religious and cultural backgrounds sometimes describe encounters with spiritual figures familiar to their traditions, and this was the same download I had been given hours earlier about the livestream for this episode! I'd even made a note in my phone so I wouldn't forget, and I show the note on camera right after he talks about this aspect of NDEs. It was startling to me to hear him saying the same concept that had just been presented to me in my meditation mere hours before we met to record!

The very subject that had spontaneously entered my awareness earlier was now emerging naturally in a completely separate conversation. Experiences like these remind me that there may be meaningful connections unfolding in our lives that we don't recognize when we're operating exclusively through the rational mind. When we become more attentive to our intuition and the subtle patterns around us, we begin noticing these connections more frequently.

Do Limiting Beliefs Follow Us Into the Afterlife?

There is evidence to suggest that our expectations can influence what we experience when we leave the physical body. I remember a story from a book I read decades ago about past-life regression and life-between-lives exploration. In this past life regression, a person went back to a life he'd had with deeply ingrained religious fear. I think he'd been a fire and brimstone type of preacher in that life. When he died, he initially experienced the gruesome imagery of hell he had spent so many years preaching and instilling into parishioners. As the regression went on, his spirit guides removed the masks of the hellish demons they'd pretended to be and revealed their true benevolent forms.

The implication is fascinating: perhaps the experience reflected the person's own beliefs rather than an ultimate spiritual reality. There was also an aspect of retribution for the fear he had caused to so many others.

Of course, accounts from regression sessions and near-death experiences are subjective and do not establish exactly what happens after death. But these types of accounts raise an important question.

If our beliefs influence how we perceive reality while we're alive, could they also influence how we interpret experiences beyond the physical body?

Think about how powerful our conditioning can be. We may consciously believe in a loving universe while subconsciously carrying fears about punishment, judgment, unworthiness, or spiritual danger. Those fears can influence how we interpret experiences, even when we don't recognize them.

This is one reason spiritual growth involves more than acquiring new knowledge. It also requires examining the beliefs we've inherited and determining whether they still serve our highest good.

How Fear Can Shape Spiritual Encounters

I've had numerous experiences in the hypnagogic state, that fascinating threshold between wakefulness and sleep. During this transitional state, I've perceived environments, figures, and imagery that feel very different from ordinary waking consciousness. Some experiences have been beautiful and expansive. Others have initially triggered fear.

For example, I've encountered imagery resembling reptilian beings or figures with sharp, pointed teeth. Honestly, my immediate, instinctual reaction has sometimes been fear. But I've learned something important about that initial response. Just because something looks unfamiliar or frightening doesn't necessarily mean it represents a threat.

Our minds are conditioned to respond to certain appearances with fear. Yet those reactions may reveal more about our expectations and associations than about what we're actually encountering.

Rather than immediately withdrawing from an unsettling experience, I've experimented with becoming curious. What am I really perceiving? Why am I reacting this way? Am I interpreting this experience through an existing belief?

Sometimes, simply shifting my attention or focus changes the experience itself.

Hypnagogic imagery can be especially fluid, and these experiences have taught me the value of observing my reactions without immediately assuming I understand what they mean. This doesn't mean abandoning discernment. In fact, it means the opposite. We must allow discernment to arise from awareness rather than automatic fear.

Spiritual Gatekeepers and the Possibility of Deeper Realms

Another fascinating idea related to this comes from author and dream explorer Robert Moss. Robert has written extensively about dreams, shamanic exploration, and the extraordinary possibilities of consciousness.

He talks about gatekeepers or guardians encountered within dream experiences and spiritual realms. Within this framework, a seemingly intimidating figure might not be malevolent at all. Instead, it could represent a threshold, a boundary, or a symbolic guardian associated with entering a different level of experience. Perhaps there are things we aren't ready to understand or integrate until we've developed greater awareness.

I find this possibility particularly interesting because it challenges our tendency to divide unfamiliar experiences into simplistic categories of good and bad. Something that initially feels threatening might invite us to examine our fears, develop greater discernment, or recognize an internal limitation.

Of course, there are many possible interpretations of dream imagery and altered-state experiences. Not every unsettling encounter needs to be understood as an external spiritual being. The deeper lesson, for me, is to remain open and curious without surrendering my own sovereignty.

Clearing Spiritual Baggage

When we talk about spiritual awakening, we often focus on expanding consciousness, activating intuitive abilities, connecting with our higher self, or accessing deeper spiritual wisdom. But some of the most important work involves recognizing and clearing what is limiting us.

Our beliefs can become invisible boundaries. We may carry assumptions about what is possible, what is safe, what we deserve, and how the spiritual world operates. Some of these beliefs were inherited from family, religion, culture, or difficult life experiences. Others developed through our own attempts to make sense of the world.

The challenge is that we don't always recognize them as beliefs. We may simply experience them as truth. This is why self-inquiry is so important.

When fear arises, we can begin asking ourselves:

  • What am I actually afraid of?

  • Where did this belief originate?

  • Is this fear based on something I know, or something I've been taught?

  • Could there be another way to interpret this experience?

  • What might become possible if I released this assumption?

We don't have to deny our fears or force ourselves to feel differently. Instead, we can acknowledge them, investigate their origins, and gradually loosen their hold.

I believe this process is essential for anyone seeking a deeper connection with their higher self and a more expansive experience of consciousness.

Synchronicity, Sacred Geometry, and the Patterns of Consciousness

Another extraordinary synchronicity unfolded while I was revisiting an earlier conversation with Robert Moss. I had been thinking about inviting Robert back onto Soul Elevation and decided to listen again to our previous interview.

During that conversation, he had mentioned an experience involving an iguana. He mentioned that they can be underwater for up to 30 minutes at a time. It was a story I had completely forgotten since our talk over a year ago.

Then, just a few hours after listening to that story, a friend unexpectedly sent me a video involving an iguana who was rescued from far out in the ocean.

There was no explanation or apparent reason for her sending that particular video. But because I had just heard Robert's story, the timing immediately caught my attention. Iguanas are not a topic that shows up much in my life, particularly relating to them being in water.  What are the odds?

I love experiences like this because they invite us to notice the recurring patterns woven throughout our lives, which I see as related to sacred geometry.

Sacred geometry explores patterns, proportions, and forms that repeat throughout nature. For me, these patterns also serve as a beautiful metaphor for the interconnectedness of consciousness.

I've experienced geometric imagery in my own clairvoyant perceptions, and I've long felt drawn to the idea that recurring patterns can help us contemplate the deeper structure of reality.

When similar themes or symbols unexpectedly appear across different experiences, I find it worthwhile to pay attention. We don't necessarily have to determine whether every synchronicity has a supernatural explanation. Sometimes the value lies in what the experience awakens within us: curiosity, presence, wonder, and a willingness to see life from a broader perspective.

Moving Beyond Fear Into Greater Spiritual Awareness

Perhaps one of the most important lessons from exploring near-death experiences, spiritual encounters, and synchronicities is that our perception is not always the same as ultimate reality. We see the world through layers of conditioning, expectation, memory, and belief.

And when we encounter something that challenges those layers, fear can arise. But we can approached the unknown differently than we have before!

Instead of immediately deciding that something is dangerous, impossible, or beyond our understanding, we can allow ourselves to become curious. We can recognize that some of our greatest limitations are beliefs we haven't yet questioned.

This doesn't require us to believe everything we encounter or abandon healthy skepticism. We just need a willingness to examine our assumptions and remain open to new possibilities.

The more we release the fears and beliefs that constrain us, the more freedom we discover within our own consciousness. And that freedom changes not only how we experience our physical lives, but also how we approach the profound mystery of what lies beyond them.

Are You Ready to Question What You Believe?

I encourage you to reflect on the beliefs you carry about spirituality, consciousness, death, and the afterlife. Are they truly your own? Do they expand your sense of possibility, or do they keep you operating from fear? Have you ever experienced a synchronicity that made you question how connected our reality might be? Have you noticed how changing your perspective can completely transform the way you experience something?

These are powerful questions to explore as we continue awakening to the deeper dimensions of who we are.
