The Major Trend that is Silencing Your Soul

Please bear with me while I express my frustration for a moment. I know many are feeling the same way as me on this topic.

The emails. The social media captions. The marketing messages. Even personal posts have a familiar rhythm and structure that makes them feel completely interchangeable and indistinguishable from one another. I cannot stop noticing this, and it all leads back to the same big question:

What happens to our authentic self-expression when hand everything over to AI?

I'm not talking about rejecting artificial intelligence altogether. I'm not a purist; I use AI myself. As a small business owner and a one-person team, there are things it would be foolish of me not to lean on AI for. I use AI for things like show notes and some of the visual elements associated with my content. But there is a difference between using AI as a tool and it becoming the source of our creative expression. And we all need to really be thinking about this - especially those of us on the spiritual path.

The Growing Sameness of AI-Generated Content

AI-generated content and communication has become easily recognizable, at least to me. The subject matter can be completely different. One person might be talking about astrology, another about parenting, another about a business, and another about spirituality. But underneath the desperate topics, the language follows strikingly similar patterns.

There's a particular formula: the same setup, a reframing, a series of short, emphatic statements. Once you notice these patterns, you can't unsee them. And for me, once I notice the pattern, I stop paying attention to what the person is actually saying. Instead, I'm focused on the pattern. And I subsequently have an automatic deterioration of trust in the content, and even the person.

It's not even that the information is necessarily wrong. It's just that I'm wondering how much of the person's actual voice and authentic thoughts and ideas are present in what I'm reading. I can't help but suspect that the content is heavily constructed by AI, and I don't feel like consuming AI content (even when it's presented as coming from a human) is the best use of my time.

AI Is a Tool, But It Shouldn't Replace Your Voice

As I mentioned, I myself use AI for some parts of my work output. But when it comes to the actual substance of what I'm sharing, I am deliberate and intentional about that coming from me. I want my emails to sound like me, so I write them myself, with no input from AI. My social media captions come from my own creative force. When I speak on my livestreams, I prioritize the ideas and inspiration coming through me rather than being suggested or generated by an algorithm telling me what my audience is searching for.

I do this thoughtfully and deliberately, because I'm not just trying to produce content for the sake of having content out there. I'm expressing something true and authentic, that comes from me. To me, there is a profound difference between focusing on churning out content and prioritizing it being consumed by the most people and expressing what is floating up within me to be shared.

Self Expression

When we talk about self-expression, it's easy to limit that to artists, musicians, writers, or other traditionally creative people. But every human being is expressing themselves all the time.

We express through how we speak, move, relate to other people, communicate our emotions, solve problems, create, and how we generally show up in the world. Our expression is an important part of our creative force.

From my spiritual perspective, we are eternal beings having a human experience. We came into this physical life with particular gifts, talents, perspectives, and ways of seeing the world. And we came here to express those things.

Your expression is not supposed to look exactly like someone else's. You don't fulfill your purpose by doing exactly what someone else has done. You aren't expressing yourself when you communicate exactly like the person you admire. You aren't supposed to have the same kind of business, write the same kind of book, teach the same modality, or make the same kind of content as someone who has come before you.

You are here to find your expression.

Beware the Temptation to Outsource Your Intuition

There is a lot of advice for content creators to use AI to figure out what people are searching for, what audiences want, what topics are trending, and what we should talk about. Maybe that information is interesting to a certain point. But we must be aware of the risks of that date being the source of inspiration, particularly in the spiritual content realm.

I truly value my own intuition over the AI algorithms. I'd rather follow what feels aligned to my soul and Source. I'd rather allow inspiration to come through my connection with Source and my Higher Self than ask an algorithm to tell me what everyone else wants to hear.

That can mean fewer views. I'm okay with that. To me, it's important that I am not just an echo chamber where AI tells us what people want, and then AI-generated content feeds people more of what AI has already determined they want.

At some point, we have to step outside that loop and act upon what we actually want to say. We must be able to tune into what is there in our own consciousness, wanting to come through.

Authenticity Matters Even More in Spiritual Spaces

Consider this in the spiritual content you are consuming. If someone is presenting themselves as a spiritual teacher, guide, healer, or authority, I want to know that they are actually connected to their own experience and wisdom. If their content is heavily generated by AI, if AI is telling them what to talk about and how to structure their spiritual teachings, I think it's worth asking why.

If you're here to connect with your Higher Self, with Source, with God, or with your own inner knowing, why would you outsource that connection? And if you're presenting yourself as an expert or authority in developing spiritual connection, why aren't you yourself using that in your own content? The answer might be self evident of what that content creator actually accesses within themselves, or not.

We must remain discerning about where our authority comes from. As we awaken, discernment becomes increasingly important. We need to pay attention to who and what we're trusting, including the technologies we're allowing to influence us.

Watch Out for the Prioritization of FAST Content

I've been thinking about this whole topic in terms of something like the slow food movement. We value food that has been prepared slowly and thoughtfully, with attention and care. It's deliberately not the fastest or cheapest option. But you can taste the difference.

I think the same thing applies to creative work, and it will come to be a marker of higher value content.

We're in a world now with because of AI things can be created incredibly quickly. We can have an AI generate an email, a social media post, an image, an outline, an article, or virtually anything else in seconds. And sometimes there is value in that.

But there is also value in taking the slower path, and this value is often hidden under the surface. There's value from ideas that have been sat with, for inward listening, allowing inspiration to develop, taking the time to find the right words that hit in a specific way, infusing your intention into your expression, and for allowing the time for something to really have your signature to it.

As AI-generated content gets thrown at us more and more, I believe we may actually become better at recognizing the difference between something that was quickly and thoughtlessly produced and something that has been deeply considered and authentically expressed.

Protect Your Creative Force

So I leave you with a simple invitation.

Pay attention to what you're creating. Pay attention to what you're consuming. Notice the familiar language and visual patterns of AI generated content. Notice when someone's words feel alive and distinctly their own. Notice when you feel more connected to a person because you can sense their authenticity in what they're sharing.

And most importantly, notice your own voice. Your unique way of expressing yourself matters. There is something precious about human creativity that we don't want to lose in the mission for creating to be faster and easier.

Use the tools that serve you, but don't  lose yourself or give away your authority or lose your connection to your intuition.

Do NOT give away the beautiful, unique expression of your soul. You are here to express something that only you can express.
