Kara Goodwin: Hi. Welcome to the Soul Elevation Podcast, guiding your ascension to new heights. I'm Kara Goodwin and I'm excited to be with you today. I wanna talk about a, an activity, a spiritual activity that I. Is something that a lot of people wanna bypass. Um, and it's funny to, it's kind of funny to me because I, I've been.
Meditating for many years, and I've been a, a meditation guide for others for, since, let's see, I think about for about seven years or so. And, um, I, I have seen people change through meditation. I've seen myself change through meditation, um, in some really, really beautiful ways. Not only with their meditation practice [00:01:00] becoming easier, I.
But with their whole lives improving. And if you're watching content like what I put on the Soul Elevation podcast, this, you know, this isn't necessarily news to you. You may already be a meditator. You're definitely interested in the spiritual component of life. Otherwise you wouldn't be drawn to content like this.
But what I do find is that. Many people want to engage with the spiritual aspect of life. They want to have a spiritual perspective. They wanna understand the reality from a spiritual lens. They want their lives to change, and they're very busy and they're very entrenched in their habits. And when something like.
Carving out time for meditation is put on the table. A lot of times I will hear things like, my [00:02:00] life is a meditation. I, I move in a meditative way. I live in a meditative way. And that is a way of telling ourselves that we don't need meditation or that we are living our lives. In an aligned spiritual way without having to actually engage in that alignment.
And I, I do understand, I mean, I'm a, I live in the modern life too. I'm a parent. I, you know, I have a lot of responsibilities. Um, I know that it's hard. Life moves very quickly and our days are very full. But you will never find a spiritual master. I would. I would argue that doesn't have a spiritual practice.
That doesn't carve out time, arguably every day I. To connect with [00:03:00] their soul. And that is what meditation is. That is what meditation at least can be. Of course, meditation spans a, a spectrum of practices and ways or, or, uh, things that it's trying to accomplish, let's say. So there are people who are.
Meditating and they're not necessarily trying to connect with their spirit. Actually, that's how I began my meditation journey. I was really just looking for a way to. Um, calm myself in a way to feel more secure because I was going through such a hard time in my life, a lot of tragedy all around me, just like heaps and heaps of one thing after another with people that I loved going through death and.
Disease, accidents, um, surgeries, just major, major trans organ transplants, [00:04:00] heart transplants, like just very, very huge events. And I just felt like I was blowing on the wind and I needed something to kind of get me. To, to anchor me in. I felt, and, but I wasn't really looking necessarily for spiritual connection on a, on the conscious level anyway.
But as my practice has evolved, that has become the most important thing to me, is that connection to spirit. And so. When we look at, like, let's take the llamas for example, llamas in Tibet, you know, who are these? Many of them would be considered masters. They're able to, um, they have awakened cities, which is, um, S-I-D-H-I-S, not cities.
Um. But those are spiritual powers. You know, they, they can, many of them can [00:05:00] perform acts that are paranormal that we don't even accept as possibilities in modern living. So if you think of mastery, you know, spiritual mastery as maybe, you know, one definition of that could be the ability to transcend the physical laws that, you know, the physical Newtonian laws that we accept in this.
Realm, they're, you're not gonna find one that doesn't ex, that doesn't prioritize something like meditation or, you know, a Hawaiian kahuna or a, you know, native American chief or, or shaman or, you know, they're, they're gonna, it. They're very advanced spiritual beings that are in human bodies, and I would guess that.
Something like meditation, something like stilling the physical body [00:06:00] and stilling the mind every day so that they can connect to that, um, this to, to their spirit and to the energy of who they are, and then use that connection that. That feeling, connecting to that energy, that animation that's within them, connecting that to something greater, something higher, their higher self, or their spirit guides or their ancestors.
It takes that. Discipline and that dedication to be able to cultivate that. It doesn't necessarily, I mean, I know you're, people can argue. Yeah. People have spiritual, you know, spontaneous spiritual awakenings and then they suddenly have these powers that show up or these, um, they suddenly can see energy or, or whatever it might be.
And that is true. There are. Spontaneous spiritual awakenings, but that's not the norm. Um, [00:07:00] and it's not something that we have to be at the mercy of. It's not that, oh, if it's gonna happen to me, I can't be involved in the process. If you're drawn to content like this, you are drawn to enhancing your spirit, to making that a more dominant part of your life.
And that takes. Choice that takes dedication and it does take a prioritization. If you want to experience the highest version of yourself and you want to experience yourself in. As a, a spiritual being and from a lighter and higher vibrational aspect than what you are experiencing it now, you have to make different choices than what you have been making because everything that's gotten you to where you are now [00:08:00] has gotten you to where you are now.
It's not gonna take you further if you keep repeating the same behaviors, the same actions, the same thoughts, same beliefs. And the easiest way to cut through the thoughts and beliefs that aren't serving us is through meditation, because with meditation. We are able to still, the body, still the mind, and it allows us to actually begin to more easily rewrite our subconscious.
And that is extremely powerful. We can bring in healing, we can bring in spiritual leaps, we can bring in, um, relationship, um. What's the word I wanna say? Like we can, um, heal, heal our relationships because we can take on a new perspective so that we can understand more compassionately somebody else, and we can communicate more effectively.
All of these things come [00:09:00] through, coming into contact with our spirit and letting that take up more space and letting that be where we communicate from and where we act from. And again. This is available to everybody, but it does take that choice to create new habits, to create new beliefs, to create new, um, new thoughts.
And again, the quickest way to do that is through meditation. So yes, we're all very busy, but we're all, we all have priorities. Right, so you're prioritizing whatever it is that's filling up your day. So maybe it's worthwhile to make a note over the next few days. Write down, literally write down how you spend your days.
What is it that you're doing, um, hour by hour or, you [00:10:00] know, morning. Afternoon, evening, what is it that you're doing? Because there's probably time that is open where you are available, but you maybe don't feel like, you know, nurturing your spiritual practice. You don't feel like going and meditating, but you're gonna scroll on your phone or you're gonna, you know, watch TV or whatever it might be.
You're gonna read the news. Those things are not gonna help advance you. That's part of that pattern that's keeping you in this loop of where you are now. So in order to get into another octave of life of another higher version of yourself, you need to be disciplined. Don't fool yourself into thinking that you are a living meditation.
Okay? You can go deeper. That is. [00:11:00] That is a, a, a lie that we tell ourselves. Honestly, that is a lie that we tell ourselves. So if you're really wanting change, if you're really wanting to connect with yourself and have a more spiritual experience to really engage and let your soul lead you to live from your soul.
It does take a meditation practice. It takes carving out some time, every day. I would argue that, um, if you have tried meditation, because another thing that happens is that people tell themselves right away that they could never meditate because they know that they've got these thoughts that just their mind is ping ponging around and they know that they don't.
They feel that they would never be able to meditate because they know that they're constantly thinking. Maybe it's that when you fall asleep at night, when you [00:12:00] close your eyes to fall asleep, your thoughts are just racing, and that tells you, you tell yourself the story that you could never meditate because you're equating trying to fall asleep with what it must be like to meditate.
Or maybe you've tried meditation once or twice or five times. And that was your experience. But what you need to understand is that's how it starts. That's how every meditator, every modern meditator starts with. Chaotic mind. That's part of the discipline. You get better at it, the more you do it. Just like you know, if you wanna sit and learn how to play the piano and you think that you should be a virtuoso as soon as you sit down because you've got the same equipment that a piano virtuoso has, you've got all the keys that they have access to, so you should just be able to.
You know, uh, play some complicated piece of music right [00:13:00] away. Well, you know better than that. It's the same thing with meditation. It's a practice. Yes, it's available and accessible to everybody, but it takes dedication. For me, it took a teacher. I needed somebody to help give me a method and help me understand what was happening.
My intellect really wanted to understand what it was that I was ha, what it was that I was doing. How that affected me physiologically, why that worked that way. That was really helpful for me and, and that teacher taught me the importance of doing a meditation every single day and letting that build into a habit.
I. It. And so, um, that might be something that would be helpful for you is to find a teacher. So, um, you know, I can tell you I have a 21 day online Learn to Meditate course that's self-paced. And I also have a community called The Healing Hearth. And we do online meditations once or twice a week, [00:14:00] and we have like a discussion forum, and it's a really beautiful group.
Of people who get together and, um, and connect. It's a beautiful little community. So that might be something. Um, and actually as I'm thinking about it, if you do sign up to do the self-paced course, you get two free months of the Healing Hearth. If you want to try that too. So, um, but that community aspect can be really helpful too, because then you're surrounding yourself with people who are also prioritizing this type of activity.
So the other thing that I would say, the final thing I wanna say about, if you are telling yourself that you can't meditate because your mind is going a mile, a million miles a minute. It. One thing that that might be pointing to is that you are in need of some detoxing. So you may be putting into your body a lot of processed foods, a lot of, [00:15:00] um, low vibrational foods.
You might need to, uh, you might be, have a lot of metals. In your body. So you may want to do, look into doing some sort of a cleanse or de detox. Some sort of parasitic cleanse can be really helpful too. Um, so there are a lot of resources out there. You can do research in terms of what, what will resonate the most for you, but, um, and then being mindful about what you eat, you know, eating, living more fruits, more vegetables, um, more, you know.
Things that are closer to the earth and not so processed, getting rid of caffeine, soft drinks. Um, you know, maybe you're having too much tea, coffee, um. Alcohol or recreational drugs, over the counter drugs, all of these things are affecting your energy. So if you are feeling like you are, you can't get a handle on your thoughts and they're just, you know, you, they're just taking [00:16:00] over and you're kind of at their mercy and you're ping ponging around that.
Very well may be telling you that there is a change that's needed in what you're taking in and what, because you know, we are what we consume. So, um, that might be actually a, a way that your body and your mind is trying to tell you that a change is needed in that way. So. That was everything that I wanted to mention.
