469. Life Challenges Are Spiritual Invitations | The Soul’s Perspective on Crisis, COVID, & Awakening

Are your life challenges really obstacles… or are they invitations from your soul? In this Soul Elevation livestream, I share how our struggles—whether personal or global, like the collective trauma we experienced during COVID—can be powerful catalysts for awakening and transformation.

I open up about my own journey: from a period of intense loss and emotional overwhelm, to how meditation became the doorway to deep spiritual connection. It wasn’t instant or easy, but it changed everything.

In this episode, I talk about how your soul may be gently (or sometimes not so gently) nudging you to remember who you really are—and how life doesn’t have to fall apart before you begin that reconnection.

✨ Ask yourself: Are you spending your time scrolling, or soul-growing?

You have the power to create space for your inner truth—starting right now.

🌀 What I cover in this talk:

How to see your challenges from the soul’s perspective

Why COVID was a spiritual invitation, not just a crisis

My personal journey from breakdown to awakening

The role of meditation in building spiritual resilience

Why the “time excuse” is keeping you from your soul

Practical ways to shift from distraction to divine alignment

Crisis or awakening

[00:00:00]

Speaker: Hello and welcome to Soul Elevation Guiding Your Ascension to New Heights. I'm your host, Kara Goodwin, and today I want to talk about our challenges that we have in life and what that is actually from the soul's perspective because , we experience things from our, our life perspective, of course, from a very personal. Perspective, and it makes me think back to five years ago when we were all in COVID and all of us were going through this collective trauma. We were all going through it individually, but we were going through it together because it impacted, of course, it impacted everybody and these can be invitations.[00:01:00]

From the soul perspective for us to shift our focus. So we may be plotting along in life, going from work to the gym to the party to. Home and then doing it all over again or whatever our life looks like. But we may just be doing it in this repetitive motion where we're, you know, just going through the motions and that's not what we're here to do.

We're here to. Discover ourselves as souls and to live from the soul perspective. In fact, I'll go back to what I was saying, how we may spend our time. We may spend a lot of our time actually just scrolling online, staring at a lighted box, and spending hours and hours and hours of our time and our energy.

Consuming digital [00:02:00] content, that is certainly not what we're here to do. And so when we go back to COVID, for example, you know when that when the pandemic started, I started hosting, um, guided meditations online and I had a huge surge of people joining these guided meditations, people I had never heard of before.

And. It was a very interesting thing because people were, first of all, they had an abundance of time and they didn't know what to do with it. And so if you think back to what it was like back then, a lot of people were. Figuring out, okay, well I've just been handed all this time. What do I do with it?

People work cleaning out closets and, and painting rooms and picking up hobbies that they hadn't been able to do in a long time. And there was a lot of like purging in [00:03:00] terms of people just. Getting rid of a lot of things because they suddenly were like, this is what I would do if I had time. And I have all these things that I would do if I had time that I tell myself, if I had all the time in the world, I would clean up my yard or um, I would, you know, go through these, this closet I haven't touched in 12 years or whatever it might be.

But I think for a lot of people connecting with their soul falls on that list, I'm so busy. I, I can't deal with that now, so I'll wait until I retire, or I'll wait until I really feel that I need it and or they don't put any thought into it at all. For me, I was like, this, I, if I go back to, before I started meditating, before I started getting in touch with my spirit, I was really interested in meditation.

I would read about medi, like I would read articles [00:04:00] about fascinating things that people were doing, and. Or a book, you know, where it was like people who can connect with the other side or something, you know, things along that nature. And it always, meditation was like this thread that ran through all of these interesting studies about how we can overcome stress and even things that we can do with our genetics that a lot of it came back to meditation.

And so. I tried it, you know, I tried it a few times and I wanted to develop a practice. I wanted to be a meditator, but I was so busy. I had young kids. I had a full-time demanding job. I had three pets and you know, a house and, um, I just didn't feel that I had time. And so even when I stopped working, I still felt very busy.

I, um, we were living in Italy and, you know, I'd take my kids to and from school and to all [00:05:00] their activities. We didn't, you know, we did all that on foot 'cause we lived in the middle of a, a medieval city. And, um, and then I. Spent time with friends and I just found things to make my day busy so that I actually never, you know, prioritized that soul connection.

And then my life came crumbling down really, really fast and I lost my sister-in-law. Um, she passed away. Our dog passed away. Three weeks later, my stepdad ended up in surgery for spinal stenosis, so he was having brainstem surgery. This was a few weeks after that. A few weeks after that, my mother-in-law was hit by a motorbike as she crossed the street and was in the hospital for healing from that.

And then my stepmom ended up in the ICU, got to the top of the heart transplant list, which means things are very, very dire. And had a heart [00:06:00] transplant and all of that happened within a very short amount of time, just a few months, and I kind of just felt that my life got turned upside down and I just lost confidence in.

My coping ability, I guess we could say. I just felt that life was beating me down and that is why I, I saw sought out meditation and I got serious about it because I really felt that I was at a point in my life. That was critical and that I needed soul support and, and actually that's how I look back at it.

But really what was happening in the moment, moment by moment, I had been so curious about meditation, but I knew that it was this, um, this calm, that it had this calming effect and it could help our us calm. Our nervous systems and help us with anxiety, and that's really why, on a [00:07:00] conscious level, why I sought out meditation, because I really just needed to regulate myself.

I don't even think I had this sort of language at the time, but basically my life had to crumble for me to really get serious about meditation. And then my spiritual connection opened up from there, but it wasn't right away. I wasn't like, oh, I wanna connect more with spirit. I wanna have more of a spiritual experience in my human body.

That kind of came over time. Uh, it just sort of came in. I kind of created this opening because I wanted to feel less stressed and that. Was sort of a byproduct almost, and now that's like the most important thing for me. But what I want you to know is that things don't have to get critical for you to have this connection, and your soul wants this connection with you.

[00:08:00] Without needing the crisis. And the other side to this is when you do get in crisis, after you have this sole perspective, you have these reserves built up. So I'm hosting this Galactic Summit on a week from tomorrow on August 2nd. So I'm recording this on Friday, July 25th. The summit is. Next Saturday, so eight days from now, and there are a few guests who are in the Asia Pacific regions who I am recording them in advance because they'll be asleep when we have the summit.

So one of those Isha Patel I met with last night to record her segment and we were talking about how we are. Diligent with our practices in that connection with our soul, with our higher self, with our divine team. But she was talking about how, you know, she just got married and things were really, really crazy and [00:09:00] busy, and she felt that she wasn't able to prioritize that time.

Because her life just kind of was in such a, a frenetic pace at that time. And then I was reflecting that I had a major medical, um, situation in my family the last, in the last few months. And life just stopped because it was around the clock. You know, medical care. You know, all hands on deck. There was literally not time for me to meditate.

There was hardly time for me to shower. I really wasn't even getting sleep because I was having to, medicine was having to be administered every couple of hours. Um. And so I was like hardly sleeping, trying to fit in a shower when I could, and there really, really was not time for me to meditate. [00:10:00] That was the type of situation where I just couldn't get away, and I wasn't prioritizing that at that time because.

It was a critical situation. Um, but what, what Isha and I talk about is that we have these reserves. It's like we're building because we've got this connection, because we've got this practice, we've got that solid. Kind of, again, connection. And we've built up these reserves that we can step away when we need to, when things are critical and still be able to have that connection, still be able without it, without necessarily feeling that we're losing a lot by not nurturing it when it's really impossible to.

But that said, it takes time and discipline and choice moment by moment choice to get to that point. So we don't wanna [00:11:00] just started a meditation practice a couple months ago and then think, oh, okay, I've built up some reserves. Now I can step away because you really do wanna. Nurture that and keep it ongoing and don't think like, well, I meditated once or I meditated for a month, or whatever it is.

So I'm done. I've kind of done the work. It is a cumulative effect and that's where you're really gonna get the benefit is from that practice, that that discipline of continuing the practice. So if we go back, like I was saying with the COVID thing, where. I was hosting these online meditations and I had scores of people, let's see, scores.

Is that 12? No, that's a dozen Anyway, 20 is scores, right? So maybe a couple of scores of people, um, because these people had this abundance of time and they were lost and they were like, okay, everything how I used to. Spend my time is [00:12:00] no longer available, and so I'm gonna try meditation. I'm gonna, because they knew that it was gonna help them with their stress levels, and it was a very, very stressful time.

But also they felt that they had the abundance of time, at least this is my perception. Um. The amount of people who stuck with it are very few, at least with me. So it could the give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they kept going in another way. There are a lot of meditation options available out there, but as things started to open up and get back to normal, we then had the opportunity to.

Take our lives back to normal, take them back into comfort, take them back into how we were before, but we had this massive invitation from the soul to have our lives turned upside down just like I [00:13:00] did when I had my awakening many years ago. Where. Every, I was losing a lot of people or there was a lot of crisis that, looking back I can see that this was this invitation, very blunt invitation from my soul to come into a different version of myself.

And I see the, the lockdown and the experience that we had with COVID as that invitation that we had to. To connect with our souls and to experience life in a different way. To have that time that we, we may tell ourselves, well, if I had time, I would meditate, but things are too crazy. So you do have full control over your life.

You have full control over your life, and I would wager a bet that you, if you aren't. [00:14:00] Nurturing the spiritual connection. You're telling yourself you don't have time for it. But I encourage you to be honest about the amount of time you might be spending, scrolling on social media, watching YouTube videos, which you know, I thank you for watching this.

Is is, you know, something that is. Has another invitation to, to connect with your soul, but you know, are how, what kind of content are you always watching? Are you always watching uplifting content? Are you handing yourself over to fear agendas? Are you spending time, you know, kinda mindlessly doing things?

Or are you actively engaged in your spiritual development in your life? And I am. I bet that there is, there are moments in your, you know, you can, I bet you've got time to spend five minutes meditating or 10 [00:15:00] minutes meditating and build up that time with the, the available time that you do have. So it's definitely, you know, that's the main thing.

Don't feel that you are being pulled along by life. And that you don't have a choice, that you don't have time. You decide how you spend your time and only you. And so you prioritize what you wanna prioritize. And if you want to experience yourself at the sole level having a human experience, then you're the one, you're the gatekeeper there.

So organize your life and have a, have a think about that. How can you nurture that? Because it is completely in your control, which also means it's your responsibility. So thank you so much. I hope to see you at the Galactic Summit. Go on kara [00:16:00] goodwin.com. And you'll see the Galactic Summit there.
